It’s often said that “beauty is in the details.” But, what happens if you stand back and try to see less detail? This was an invaluable lesson I learned at a young age from my artistic, yet eccentric grandmother. She taught me to fine tune my eye and to appreciate the silhouette of even the most rudimentary items around us. Whether it was the graceful lines of a piece of furniture, the structure of a formal garden or even the intriguing shadows that occurred at certain times of the day – It was all there, if I took the time to look. That skill later changed how I saw everyday objects and eventually how I translated them into my artwork. By focusing on the most simplistic elements, I learned to showcase their true beauty. Through the use of visually textured layers and an energized palette, I can create dimension, movement and light in every piece. In the end you’re left with a statement that’s minimal, bold and often filled with a hint of childhood wonder. Having worked in the interior design field for so many years, I understand the power of art and how it can capture the attention of the viewer, cause an emotion and even change how one experiences a space. In the end, my goal is to create contemporary art that is uplifting, inspires joy and hopefully challenges the observer to view things with a new perspective.
